Birchwood gas services move from hire to buy with cat compact dealer cautrac

Warrington based utilities specialist, Birchwood Gas Services LTD has turned to new Cat Compact dealer Cautrac, to supply a Cat 301.6C mini hydraulic excavator. The machine will be put to use on a major housing development in Liverpool.

BGS is one of the leading utilities, mains and services installation companies in the northwest. The deal is an important step forward for Cautrac as it looks to establish itself as a leader in the compact dealer market for the greater Manchester area.

BGS MD, John Hopkins said, “Before purchasing the machine we had always hired plant, and as a consequence, used various machines from different manufacturers. Our site team specifically asked us to consider Caterpillar, as it was equipment they rated highly.

“Our first introduction with Cautrac was directly through Craig Taylor. He was very familiar with Cat machines, and his confidence in them was apparent. He met all our needs and made the buying process easy. The paperwork was done promptly and the delivery was on time and as promised.

Since delivery, the machine has been put to the test on a major housing development in Liverpool, where it has been continually employed excavating for the installation of new water, gas and electric services on the project.

Cautrac’s Craig Taylor commented, “After following up on a lead passed to us by Finning, we invited BGS to visit our depot in Bolton. On seeing Cautrac’s facility and discussing the machine with our staff, Mr. Hopkins was quick to make a decision that the Cat 301.6C, financed through Cat finance 0% deal, would be the clear choice. A straightforward and smooth transaction, saw BGS’s machine ready for work by the time the paperwork was completed.

“Since our appointment as Cat Compact dealers for the greater Manchester area, we have been able to talk to a number of customers unfamiliar with the Cat compact range. The Cat 301.6C mini excavator is a hugely popular unit with customers, as it combines a small footprint with a lot of power and versatility. Performance aside, we were also able to demonstrate the level of support available to BGS, giving them a great deal of confidence in the aftermarket solutions from Cautrac and Finning.”

John continued, “Prior to the machine being delivered we had a hired machine and the Cat 301.6C beats it hands down in its sensitivity, which is extremely important from an operators point of view. From a management perspective, fuel usage is well down against the charges that were levied by hire companies, not only in volume, but cost per litre.

“The other aspect, which we had not allowed for, was the sense of ownership that the team have in having their choice of machine. They have really got to grips with the machine, and they are looking after it.

“Lastly the finance package on offer was difficult to beat. The Cat finance team were on the ball and helped a lot, ensuring everything flowed smoothly.”
